We got the boots!

This is how the story goes: Steve has been desperately wanting (and needing) new motorcycle boots. He had looked online and in local retail shops. He came across a super sweet pair of Alpinestars (his fav brand) Tech 8 boots at Renegade Sports on sale for only $300, regularly priced at $360. He came home and told me about them and how they were the last pair in his size. I was making a mental note of them, while he thought I was ignoring him. The next day, I went to Renegade and bought them. A few days later, Steve went back to Renegade to see if they still had them. He was very disappointed when they were gone. He came home and told me how sad he was that they had sold them (little did he know that they sold them to his wife!) So I played along and acted sad with him.
Awhile later, I got a phone call from Steve, he had just bid on a pair of the same boots on ebay. I played dumb (hoping that he would get out-bid and give up) and acted as though the boots weren't sitting in my trunk as we spoke. I kept up this act for several days and kept up on how the bidding was going. On Sunday, I totally blew it! We were looking online at our bank account and I didn't want him to see the $300 from Renegade taken out, so I asked him not to look, which he didn't. But then I said something to the effect of, "it won't matter anyway in a couple days when the bidding is over (on ebay)." It took Steve about two seconds to figure it out and he asked me if I bought the boots and so I told him no and that I didn't want to talk about it. Well, if you know Steve at all, he kept pestering me, "did you buy those boots?" And I, being the horrible liar that I am, caved and told him how I bought the boots the day after he told me about them. I was so mad at myself for saying anything because what if he didn't get the boots on ebay? I still could have surprised him with them. I guess the suspense just got to me or something.
So, here we sit tonight. He had been the highest bidder for 3 days and I was getting way nervous. The auction ended tonight at 9:00, so from 6:30 on, we kept our eyes on the computer to make sure we didn't get out-bid. We even counted down the last ten minutes together and earned our first ebay victory! We ended up getting the boots for $150! I think I was more excited than Steve (at least I showed it more.)
