Old Ephraim's Grave

This year the Summers family reunion was held up Temple Fork. We decided to have it up here and then anyone who wanted to could drive up the grave site. Vernon told the story of Old Ephraim. I would say there was about 50 or 60 people there.

Driving up the temple fork road up to the grave.

From the road looking over to the grave. The bear was originally buried on the other side of the road and was dug up later by boy scouts, I think.

Vernon, Crystal, Ramona, Vaughn, Loyal, and Ed in front of the grave. The rock is the same height as the bear was standing on it's hind legs, 9' 11" is what I think it is.

This is the mud hole about half a block up the trail from the grave. Frank Olsen (guy who shot Old Ephraim) set two traps in this mud hole and this is where he found the bear in the trap.

Fred Summers carved this in the tree just below the mud hole where the bear was killed. Lee Summers is my Dad's Dad. Him and his brother Fred were good friends with Frank and helped skin the bear and also tried to burn it and get rid of the carcass. It was a pretty fun reunion and I think everybody had a pretty good time.
