Alexa and Kenzie came down to St. George with us to Steve's desert race. We slept at the Cope's house on Thursday night and headed for St. George on Friday morning.
We checked into our hotel and the girls freshened up from the long drive.
We went to In 'n Out Burger and then Steve dropped us off at the mall while he went to make sure his bike was running good. We had to find a Wi-Fi spot so I could submit an assignment that was due at 5:00 that day. Then we did some shopping. We found some great deals at Pac Sun then we had a heck of a time figuring out how to split the change from Alexa and Kenzie's purchase. Then Steve picked us up, we went back to the hotel and Steve went to help his friend work on his bike. Then we had to go pick up Steve's race packet and were there for quite awhile. We went to Olive Garden for dinner and then just hung out in our room.
Saturday
We had to wake up super early to get to the race.
Steve is the farthest right in this picture. I didn't think I'd get a picture of him cause I had no idea where he was in the line up, so I just took a picture of the start and he happened to be in it. He got a pretty good start, so I was excited for him. It was a dead engine start which Steve isn't a big fan of.
There were about 300 guys total racing and 90-100 racing in the amateur class, which is the class Steve was in.
In this picture he is the farthest left. The first loop was 60 miles.
Harper fell asleep in my arms, so we went back to the truck and we all fell asleep for awhile. It was pretty cold and we only had one blanket that the girls were using. I don't know why we didn't think to bring more, we knew it was supposed to be cold and rainy. And we couldn't have the truck on for very long because the gas light was on and I didn't want to run out of gas in the middle of the desert.
McKenzie read a little bit, we ate, Alexa danced, we rocked out to Alexa's iPod, and we ate some more.
After the first loop the riders pit and get more gas. Steve ended up ditching his goggles for most of the race since it was so muddy it was too hard to see out of them. He was the 3rd amateur to come into the pits.
I'm glad Josh decided not to race so that he could pit for Steve. It was raining pretty good when he came into the pits, but I got out in time to take a couple pictures.
The second loop is 50 miles, so we still had awhile to wait after he came through the pits.
We ate and rocked out some more.
At the end of the race.
He had a good time, but was really muddy and exhausted.
We went back to the hotel so Steve could shower. We had some more snacks. Harper loves licorice.
We went to the award ceremony. It took forever and we were all starving because we just ate junk all day. The girls were good to sit there and wait for Steve to get his award.
Steve got 2nd overall in the amateur class and 1st in the over 30 amateur class!
We went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner. We were all so tired that we just went to bed when we got back to the hotel. It probably wasn't a very fun trip for Alexa and Kenzie, but I'm glad they came with us!
We just drove home on Sunday. It rained/snowed pretty much the whole way. We ate dinner with the Cope's and only stayed for a bit.
