Proud to be an American

It's been 40 years since Horace Vaughn Summers was drafted into the Vietnam war.
On Sunday, Gwen had us all come over for dinner to celebrate Vaughn and his service for our country. It was a surprise for Vaughn. She had the dinner tables set up downstairs and then got out Vaughn's suit and some helmets that he wore. She talked a little bit about how grateful she was for Vaughn. Then Kennedy sang a song, she's got an amazing voice. It was really sweet. She couldn't quite make it through the song, but it was beautiful. Then Scott spoke about freedom and our country. It was really nice and touching.

McKall had made this flag and wrote down what the Pledge of Allegiance means to her and she read to us. It was all really nice. Vaughn opened some gifts and then we enjoyed a delicious meal together. It was nice to share this experience with family, I know that most Veteran's don't get the "Thanks" that they deserve. I thought that Gwen did a great job planning this and it was a great way to show our appreciation.

I just want to take a minute and thank all the Veteran's and their families that have served and those that are serving now. It takes a lot of courage and strength to go out and fight for our country. I am thankful for the freedom that we have. I am proud to be an American!

That is really neat. Most of us just take the day off and run. But, it is neat to remember what the day is all about.
