New Shrubs

Steve and I have been in the yard work mood lately, so we decided we'd better act now while we're in the mood. We've weeded a few of our flower beds already (in between the rain/snow storms) and we went and bought a few new shrubberies, some flowers, and a tree.
Here are two new bushes and a plum tree. We are waiting for this crazy weather to stop so we can plant our flowers in this bed.

Burning bush
We're new to this whole gardening thing, so hopefully we'll be good at it and keep up with it. I'm kinda worried about all the flower beds we have. I don't want them to look weeny, but I don't want to spend a fortune on plants and stuff. Also keeping up with the weeding will be a task, but hopefully we'll stay on top of it.
We are going to do vegetables in the back, so I'm looking forward to that.
If anyone has any gardening tips, I would love to hear them!
Steve has really been dreading the yard work, but he's actually done a lot more than I have (on his own free will). Today when we were getting our flowers and stuff, he said that he likes that he's not riding dirt bikes anymore. I know, it's still shocking! I think he was afraid of boredom when he sold his bike, but he's realized that there is more out there than riding. I sure am liking this side of my husband!
