Steve's First Motocross

Steve's friend, Ryan Coates, called Steve yesterday morning and said he was going to race at OCA (the track by Smith and Edwards). So Steve rounded up a few troops: Jevan Weeks, Eric Sanders, and Paul Thatcher. They got to the track around 6:45 am and met up with Ryan and one of his friends. They practiced at 8:00 and then waited for their first moto.
I invited Jake to go with me, so we headed down and got there around 11:30.
Steve and Ryan in their matching moto getup (Ryan called Steve the night before to plan outfits).

Getting ready for his first moto.

The Over 25 class (the class they were all in) started their first moto at 12:30.
He got a middle of the pack start. He passed Jevan in the first lap. And stalled his bike in a corner and Jevan passed him back. Then Steve passed him in the whoops. Then Jevan passed him back in the next corner. His arms pumped up really bad and he couldn't hold on to his bike. He followed Jevan around the rest of the race, then in the last corner, he passed Jevan back for an awesome 11th place finish! (Disclaimer: Jevan is faster than Steve at off-road, track isn't really Jevan's forte). Steve has really started to like riding track, he used to love trail riding, but now he likes track a lot better.

After his first moto, he was exhausted, but had fun.

His awesome fans: Jake and me.

We had about 5 hours until the second moto. Steve actually fell asleep in this chair, fully geared (minus his helmet) for about an hour. I kept asking Jake if he wanted to go to Target or the mall or something, but he wanted to just hang out at the race.

Moto #2 went off at about 6:30 pm. His start was about the same as the first moto. He rode a little more relaxed. He rode okay for the first 4-5 laps, but then the arm pump set in.

I wasn't really nervous until the 3rd to last lap. He was riding just fine and all of a sudden his legs were in the air and his body was almost over the handlebars. It looked like he was doing a "donkey" on the tramp. Luckily, we didn't have to call the ambulance. He held on and kept riding.
He finished this moto in 8th place, behind Ryan and Eric.

These cute little boys raced after Steve's class. They were so cute!

After the race, telling their stories.

Jake and I left at about 7:30 while Steve and the boys loaded up.
When I called to invite Jake this morning, I talked to Melanie and she asked if I was taking Jake on, "like a date?" So here we are at The Dixie Grill in Brigham City eating dinner. After we finished our meal, I asked Jake if he wanted a shake or a freeze. He thought about it for a second and said, "That would mean I would owe you like 20-something dollars." It was really cute. I told him he didn't owe me anything and that it was my treat. So we got shakes to go. I loved having Jake's company. He was totally wonderful!

Steve - Love your matching outfits! Good job(geek!) Ü
Nice air too! Any interest in going to Southern Utah with Scott and I to ride with Holli and Matt? I think we want to go around the end of October. Love to have you go!
Don't you love those little kids! I can't wait until Marshall wants to ride. Right now, he just wants to ride horses. Imagine that?!?! Ü
